How to Gain From the Benefits of Epsom Salts
The benefits of epsom salts are boundless when it comes to our bodies. I love taking a relaxing epsom salt bath when I have tense muscles or feel a headache or sickness coming on. Not only are they relaxing in general, epsom salt baths offer healing properties to the body.
The benefits of epsom salts in a bath can be felt throughout the whole body. Epsom salts are made of magnesium sulfate. Magnesium is an important mineral that can often be deficient in the human body. Taking an epsom salt bath allows the magnesium to soak in the skin, providing the body with more of the mineral. Learn more about the benefits of magnesium here. Sulfates are needed to properly detox inside the body so it is also favorable for the body to soak in. You can learn more about sulfates here.
To gain the benefits of epsom salts through a detoxifying bath: Add 2 cups of epsom salts to a regular-sized bathtub of warm water. Hotter water will result in increased effectiveness of the salts so use the warmest water you can handle without burning the skin. Soak for at least 10 minutes and up to 40, or as long as you can stay relaxed. To increase the benefits of epsom salts, you can also add essential oils to boost your soak with healing scents.
If tired feet are the problem, add a cup of water to a smaller tub and soak your feet for 20 minutes. You can also use a handful of epsom salts after soaking and scrub over the skin for an exfoliator. Besides relaxation, the benefits of epsom salts can be helpful for relieving tension that cause headaches and muscle soreness and the relaxing results can promote sleep.
In addition to a nice detoxifying soak, there are more uses to gain the benefits of epsom salts. Here are a few simple ones to try:
Exfoliator: Scrub the salts on your skin after a shower, this is a great way to remove dead skin cells and keep the skin feeling fresh and clean.
Hair Thickener - Add equal parts epsom salt to conditioner and leave in the hair for 10-20 minutes. This concoction will cause the hair to swell up temporarily. I wouldn’t suggest doing this every day, but it’s a great way to add volume to your hair for special events!
Facial Cleanser - Add a small amount of salt to facial cleanser to add a cleaning boost and an extra exfoliant for your face.
Tile Cleaner - Mix equal parts of epsom salts and dish soap for an aggressive tile cleaner.
Sunburn/Bug Bite Relief - Dissolve 1 Tablespoon epsom salts in ½ cup water and put in a spray bottle. Spritz the affected area for sunburn or bug bite relief.
The benefits of epsom salts are awesome for healthy bodies! Try a few of these options to enjoy the perks of epsom salts in your healthy lifestyle today.
