Protein Nutella

It baffles me that companies can advertise their chocolate hazelnut spread as a healthy breakfast option for children. High in bad fats and sugars, there’s really nothing nutritional about them. However, that doesn’t mean I don’t want my occasional slice of rye slathered in it. I’m only human. The solution? My clean take on the good stuff, enriched with additional protein and omega-3s.

Spoons at the ready…

Ingredients:
1 small ripe banana
25 raw hazelnuts
2 tablespoons natural nut butter (I used peanut)
2 small avocados
3 tbsp unsweetened organic cocoa
1 scoop chocolate protein powder (optional)
2 teaspoons cinnamon
2 teaspoons natural vanilla extract
2 tbsp agave or 5 drops liquid stevia
Splash of water or your favorite milk
Pinch sea salt to taste

Method:
Place all ingredients in a food processor and blend, blend, blend until smooth.

Add extra water or milk until the spread reaches your desired consistency. Store in a glass jar in the fridge for up to two weeks and spread on ezekial bread.

Tips:
Substitute half the cocoa for Maca Powder for a caramel hit.
Delicious swirled into hot oatmeal for a filing breakfast.
Slather on apples for a great post-workout snack.
